A Message From Chaplain Jack "Vinny" VinyardiLosing an animal companion can be like losing a family member, because to a great number of us that is exactly what they are. Unfortunately, there are very few places a person or family can turn to get help and understanding in dealing with the grief involved in losing a beloved pet. An Interfaith Animal Chaplain (sometimes called a Chaplain for Pets or Veterinary Chaplain) offers a compassionate ear while making difficult decisions, a safe place to acknowledge the love and the loss, and provides a spiritual framework which eventually leads to comfort and acceptance. I am a nondenominational, Interfaith Chaplain who provides pet loss grief support and performs memorial services. I serve the needs of clients in the greater Kansas City metro and surrounding areas. I am an animal lover and have been my entire life. I will come to a clinic to comfort the bereaved, hold hands (and hearts) during surgery or euthanasia, or perform a memorial service at the veterinary clinic, track or barn, or in a park or pet cemetery. My philosophy is respectful and gentle. After working in the funeral industry for over twenty years I am extremely sensitive to families in their time of need and grief. I have a background in counseling, religious education and working with families. I have served as a police chaplain and Chaplain of the Lake of the Ozarks Yachting Association.
I have also had many pets of my own as has my wife Suzee (who is a second grade school teacher at Morse Elementary in the Blue Valley school district). We now enjoy the companionship of our little cocker spaniel girl named Abby. I have compassion for the difficult times pet owners sometimes face. |
